Prestons Lake - CO9 2NP

Venue Information

Approximately 12 miles from Colchester, between White Colne and Pebmarsh, this is a stream fed secluded 19 acre lake with large stocks of most species. Due to the water quality and conditions all species of fish stocked in this have grown and bred extremely well. There is a good stock of Carp to over 30lb and a few Pike up to 30lb. The lake also features big Tench, Bream and Hybrids and offers comfortable fishing from flat banks. 

Silver fish are present in vast numbers for the general angler, with Bream, Roach and Perch being able to be caught both close in on the whip/pole and further out on the feeder. Winning match weights normally require over 30lbs to be successful! 


Location Pebmarsh

From Colchester take the A604 towards Halstead. At White Colne turn sharply right at the triangular green ( road signed for Pebmarsh ). Follow for 2.5 miles and the lake is on the left down a track. Approximate postcode CO9 2NP

Little London Resevoir - CM9 8LX

Venue Information

Species Carp ( Mirror, Common and Crucian ) Roach Rudd, Tench and Bream. Method All methods work well here, ledgering is popular for the larger fish although this is a beautiful lake to float fish. Fish are generally evenly spread and Smaller than Bog Grove at around 1½ acres and stocked with roach, perch, crucian and common carp over the last few seasons.  Has produced some good bags of silver fish in the right conditions along with tench, bream to 8lb and carp to low twenties.

Pebmarsh Lake - CO9 2NJ

Venue Information

Species Carp ( Mirror, Common and Crucian ) Roach Rudd, Tench and Bream. Method All methods work well here, ledgering is popular for the larger fish although this is a beautiful lake to float fish. Fish are generally evenly spread and don’t forget the margins. Bait Maggot, caster, bread, corn, worm, paste etc. … 


The lake is situated in the centre of Pebmarsh village, approximately three miles from Halstead. Access is via the lane opposite the Kings Head public house after approximately half a mile turn right into the car park, and please park on the right hand side. Walk along the left-hand bank past the island, you will find peg one. This is the shallow end of the lake and produces well in the warmer months.

Braintree & Bocking Notley - CM8 1RT

Venue Information

 A small general fishery contain a mix of roach, rudd, small carp, perch, bream and tench.


This water is located in Witham Road between Black and White Notley just before the junction of Pole Lane on the left if approaching from Witham.  Look for the usual Angling Coaching Initiative signs on the left and turn in and park on the right where you should see the coaches cars. The lake is a short walk across the field.

Bog Grove - CM9 8NL

Venue Information

A Maldon Angling Society Venue


Take the B1022 from Maldon towards Colchester and as you enter Great Totham village, turn right down the track adjacent to the first house on the right. Proceed down the track for 150 yards and bear left into the carpark.


Bog Grove is a man made reservoir of approximately 3 acres with 26 swims averaging 11 foot in depth. Stocked with small carp, tench, crucian, rudd, roach, ide, gudgeon, ruffe and eels.

Brookhall - CM9 8HB

Venue Information

A Colchester Angling Preservation Society water


Take the B1023 from Tiptree towards Tolleshunt Knights on approaching the village bear left onto Brook Road approx 200yds further track on left leads down to lake.


Parking : Through gate at end of lane. 


Heavily stocked 4 acre lake with 50 pegs set in picturesque Essex countryside near the village of Tiptree. Tremendous head of Carp to 29lb. Many Carp average between 6lb and 15lb, with Bream to 7lb and Tench to 8lb. Roach are plentiful and fish to 1lb are possible along with some large Perch. 

Match record currently stands at 191lbs with pleasure catches exceeding 100lb regularly. In Oct 2020 300lb of bream were moved from Layer to Brookhall. 


Margin fishing is a popular method in the summer. Fishing at around 8m on the bottom becomes effective in the cooler months. Pellets, paste and bread work well, as does sweetcorn and meat baits. Fishing maggots in the summer will bring regular bites from the Roach.

Chigborough Lakes - CM9 4RE

A Chigborough Fisheries Venue


From Maldon, take the B1026 twoards Goldhanger and Tolleshunt D'Arcy. Continue for approximately 1 mile and turn left into Chigborough Road.


The Chigborough lakes that ACI will be using are a small set of three lakes within the larger Chigborough Fisheries complex.


The lakes hold a good head of Carp ranging from 5 lb - 15 lb plus, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Tench and Perch.

Heron Hall - CM9 8TU

Venue Information

A Maldon Angling Society Venue


Go through the village of Tolleshunt Major heading towards Tolleshunt D'Arcy. Go round the double bend at the bottom of the hill and continue up beckingham road. At the top of the hill, about half a milebefore reaching Tolleshunt D'Arcy, the entrance to the fishery is on the left hand side of the road. There is a rough lay-by opposite.

Once through the gate, turn immediately left and follow the track to the parking area. The lake is about a 100 yard walk from the car park. 


Cars are not to go beyond the area marked red (shown on the picture on the left) and then walk along the track marked blue.


Heron Hall is approximately 4 arces with an island and a depth up to 14 feet. Features include reed beds, lily pads and overhanging trees. Stocked with carp to 20lb, Tench, Roach, Bream, Perch, Rudd, Ide and a few Grass Carp

Layer Marney 2 & 3 - CO5 9UF

Venue Information

From the junction of the B1023 and the B1022 in Tiptree, take the B1022 out of Tiptree towards Colchester for approximately 1.25 miles. Go past the turning to the left sign poster to Messing and turn right into a narrow road. After approximately 0.25 miles, turn right into the entrance of Haynes Green farm. Follow the "Kelvedon District Angling Association" signs around the farm buildings and down the farm track. At the bottom of the track, turn right.


Please drive carefully and quietly from the road to the water.


The three reservoir complex at Layer Marney has seen a massive infusion of fish in recent years as part of the clubs policy to create a good general fishery. The fish have thrived in these very fertile waters and now offer match and pleasure anglers consistently good sport throughout the season. Roach, rudd, crucian carp, bream, tench, common and mirror carp are present. The third reservoir has high carp and roach stocks.


Three very good waters where double figure bags are common and the larger carp that run to just over 30 lbs

Olivers - CM8 3LJ

Venue Information

A Colchester Angling Preservation Society water



 From Colchester take the A12 towards London leaving at the Witham exit. Continue until you reach a crossroads with traffic lights before turning left. Follow this road for 400 mtrs going straight on at the two small roundabouts, you will then come to a T junction by Tesco's. Turn Left towards Maldon. Follow this road beneath the A12 flyover, through a series of bends past Olivers Nurseries and continue along for about 400 mtrs of straight road. The entrance to the fishery and also access to James Cooke Woods is on the left down an unmade road. 


A lake of 4 acres set in open countryside near Witham, and Hatfield Peverel. The lake is a general fishery with a high stocking density of fish of varied species including Bream, Tench, Crucians, Roach, Rudd and Ghost Carp. Also present are many Carp with the average fish into double figures and a couple of 20's as a bonus.

CAPS removed the catfish in 2009, 45 VS Carp were stocked in Jan 2021

Pennetts Farm - CM8 1RG

Venue Information

 

A small general fishery of about fifteen swims. It contains roach, rudd, small carp, crucian carp, perch, a few bream and tench


This water is located in Witham Road between Black and White Notley near the junction of Pole Lane.  Drive down the narrow track on the north side of Pennant’s Farmhouse and follow the signs to the car park. Walk through the metal gate and across the field to the far gate and then towards the reservoir to the gate in the electrified otter fence.

Rook Hall - CM9 4RB

Take the B1026 from Maldon/Heybridge towards Golhanger (Goldhanger Road). After approximately 1 mile, turn right into Chigborough Road. After 0.5 miles you will find he car park on the right hand side.


A mature lake in three sections totalling 4 acres, average depth of the main section is 6 ft and the rear section 9 ft.


Main section stocked with bream, perch, roach, rudd, tench, carp and ide

Middle section is stocked with numerous carp to 6 lbs, tench, roach, rudd, bream and perch

Rear section is stocked with carp to 19 lbs, bream, perch, roach, rudd and tench

Seabrooks Reservoir - CM3 1PQ

From Braintree, take the A131 Chelmsford Road past the Essex show ground, through Great Leighs, past St Anne's castle and on to the roundabout. take the exit signposted to St John Church


From Chelmsford, take the A131 Braintree Road to the new roundabout and pickup the Seabrooks Farm signed exit as above. Continue along Church Lane and turn left just before the church onto a dirt track


A well established water, located in Leighs just outside Chelmsford, of over 5 acres and holding common and mirror carp, roach,rudd, crucial carp and tench.The large head of carp in the low double range make the water a relatively easy carp water with the chance of fish to over 20lbs.

The carp respond well to all baits and surface fishing is oarticularly successful. The water is also a good general fishery with a large volume of roach and rudd up to 2lbs, small carp and tench. 

Meat, sweetcorn, pellet and paste will tempt the smaller carp and larger roach and rudd. Maggots will catch smallroach and rudd. Casters fished over hemp in the late autumn can result in bags of the larger roach.

Slough House West - CM9 8JA

Take the B1022 from Maldon to Colchester and just before leaving Heybridge, turn right into Scraley Road. After approximately half a mile (opposite entrance to Slough House Reservoir) turn left down track. Keeping chicken huts on your left, proceed and take the third turning on your left. Turn right at the next junction to find the fishery and car park area.


Please park sensibly as this is a working farm area.


A man made lake of approximately 1.5 acres with swims averaging 3 - 4 ft. Stocked with carp to mid doubles, tench, roach, bream and perch

Chapel Road Tiptree. Down the track opposite the School Hall, at the point where Chapel Road become Newbridge Road and into the wood


A general fishery occupying a sheltered position in a wood. Hold roach, rudd, crucian carp, tench, perch, mirror and common carp to high double figures. In recent years, a large catfish has been caught to over 50lbs !
